For those new to his music, Unknown Neighbour is the alias of German singer-songwriter Sascha Zemke. Influenced by the likes of Bear’s Den, The Avett Brothers and Alexi Murdoch, he taught himself to play guitar and banjo before releasing his first single ‘Little Boy’ in 2016. This was followed by his second single ‘You and Me’ which provided a significant breakthrough with it being played in international advertising campaigns and leading to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Since then, Sascha developed his skills through co-writing and producing other artists.
Fast forward to 2020 and he has a new single to share titled Home, a song about the home you build on your own, no matter where you come from. Being asked about the story behind the song, he says: “I wrote this song a while ago and I think it’s my most intimate one. The lyrics kind of summarize my music – my songs, my message, my artist name – but also me as a person. Writing, producing and performing ‘Home’ has been a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s a pile of hope for those who always had a room but no home. Music gives me so much strength and I hope that this song will do the same for some of you!”
Watch the accompanying video below which provides it own special twist – I won’t spoil it but it one thing is clear, Unknown Neighbour knows how to connect to his listeners, here he builds that warm engagement beautifully, epitomising the very meaning of home, family and friends – it comes as no surprise that he has received so much attention to date.
The new single Home will be released on January 24.
