Taken from his forthcoming new album ‘Unearth Repeat’, Sam Sweeney, BBC Radio 2 Folk musician of the year 2015 and former member of folk giants Bellowhead, has shared his first album single ‘The Old Wagon Way’, also our Tune of the Day. Sam’s fiddle is accompanied by Jack Rutter on acoustic guitar and Ben Nicholls on double bass as they give us the first taste of that groove and swagger more often associated with the Celtic and Scandinavian music scenes.
The new album celebrates a new direction leaving string sections, brass, concertina and harmonium behind, the new band brings together Sam’s unique fiddle playing, the acoustic and electric guitars of Jack Rutter (Seth Lakeman, Moore Moss Rutter) and Louis Campbell (National Youth Folk Ensemble), the double bass of Ben Nicholls (Seth Lakeman, Nadine Shah) and the keyboards of Dave Mackay (Art Garfunkel). Unearth Repeat also sees Sam team up again with award-winning record producer Andy Bell.
