London-based Folk musician Ned Roberts is excited to announce the release of his new single Wrong Side Of You on December 6th 2019. This upbeat track is the first track to be released from his eagerly awaited new album Dream Sweetheart due for release next year on Independent record label Aveline Records.
We have the pleasure in premiering the accompanying video whose West Coast images go hand-in-hand with Ned’s delivery, if this doesn’t melt your wintertime blues I don’t know what will. Ned shared the following:
“The genesis of Wrong Side Of You began on the road in Germany as a gentle fingerpicked song. It’s about travelling to escape – yet your mind is still inexorably drawn back home. The song sat around for quite a while, and it was only after a breakup that its meaning began to crystallise. It’s strange how your relation to your own songs can change significantly and mould to a new set of circumstances and feelings. There’s a yearning for the West Coast in there too. It’s where I always record, the sun always shines, and I feel creatively alive. It all came together in the studio when we had a great drummer come in, Ben Lecourt, and Luther, my producer, added a sweet twelve-string jangle. My first time playing the banjo too. Listen out for the bells on the chorus.”
Dream Sweetheart is Ned Roberts third album, and his third with producer Luther Russell (Richmond Fontaine, Fabiano do Nascimento, Sarabeth Tucek), recorded in Los Angeles in Electrosound Studios. His eponymous debut was predominantly a solo affair and garnered significant national press, including rave reviews in UNCUT and The Guardian. The second, Outside My Mind, added an Americana expanse to the folk foundations of his debut, cutting live to tape to create a warm, spacious sound. It was released ion 2017 on Aveline Records (Ani Difranco, Ruth Theodore, Benjamin Folke Thomas) to wide acclaim and gained support at BBC 6Music, BBC Radio Scotland and the Independent to name a few.
Dream Sweetheart builds further on this creative dynamic. With ten days in the studio, and working from simple acoustic demos, the ethos of the record was one of invention and spontaneity. Ned has toured widely around the UK and attained a much sought after support tour with celebrated US songwriter Anais Mitchell and has also supported the likes of Joe Pug, Micah P. Hinson, The Delines, Sam Morrow, and The Stray Birds. He has toured the West Coast of the US and recently embarked on a ten date tour of Germany, as well as gigs in France, Spain and Italy.
