For those unfamiliar with The Church of Sound, it is a mostly monthly “eclectic evening of ambient, drone, experimental, electro-acoustic, improvised, noise, weird music.” Held at JT Soar, Aberdeen Street, Nottingham, it usually falls on the third Thursday of each month and in June last year, this happened to be June 21st…the Summer Solstice.
Among those performing that evening was solo guitarist extraordinaire Nick Jonah Davis who hails from rural Derbyshire. He was soon to embark on a series of Summer tour dates with the likes of House and Land, Burd Ellen, Laura Cannell, Stephanie Hladowski and Nev Clay but not before he decided to treat his congregation to a deep electric drone.
Davis performed an electric 28-minute improvisation which was also recorded live. Heavily immersive and drone orientated he has titled the recording Solstice Guitar and made it available as a digital single via Bandcamp.
