Back in May, we premiered a video for Amy Duncan‘s Labyrinth, the first of three singles to be released during the build-up to her album next summer. The music video was made in collaboration with animator Tracy Foster who used Amy’s own abstract photographs that have influenced the songs as a starting point for the animations, using altered perception, layering and mystery as a visual theme linking the videos.
Below you can watch the video for the second single titled ‘Medusa‘ on which Amy explained the significance of the mannequins featured in the animation:
“The mannequins are symbolic of feeling trapped under my own skin, unable to express myself and the isolation that comes from knowing that nobody can see what is going on underneath. But the song is joyful and is about making connections and rejoining the world again.”
Amy plays acoustic guitar, piano, electric upright bass & synths creating a folk-pop sound. Featuring percussion by Guy Nicolson (Moishes Bagel).
The songs are engineered and mixed by Cameron Malcolm who produced Mid Air by Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile). Cameron is the son of Calum Malcolm who produced Amy’s previous albums: Cycles of Life (2013 Linn Records) & Undercurrents (2016) both of which were funded by Creative Scotland and distributed through Proper Music.
Amy has launched an IndieGoGo campaign for pre-orders of the album along with with some other great rewards to help fund its promotion. In her own words:
“You can pre-order the album here and all money raised will pay for PR and radio plugging. Other offers available are high-quality prints of my photographs mounted and ready to hang in your home as well as the opportunity to have a song written for you.”
Amy’s next gig is at Leith Folk Club in Edinburgh on 19 November 7.30 pm, supporting Alan Reid.
