Alt-folk artist Alex Bayly has steadily carved out a name for himself over the last few years, carefully honing his sound to the point where his confidence in his creations has pushed him to the next level. That confidence shines through brightly on his debut album Leylines, released at the end of last month and offering the perfect showcase for his evocative lyrics and soaring melodies, underpinned by an unforgettable voice.
His single, Animal, touches on “relationships and how they shape you into the person you become”, and for the accompanying video, he wisely turned to his friend Curragh Treanor to create the visuals. The kaleidoscopic images offer the perfect contrast to the nature of intersections and transformation that take place upon the timelines of life, a theme that carries across the rest of the album.
Alex Bayly on Animal:
“I’ve teamed up with my good friend Curragh Treanor to deliver what I believe is one of my most accomplished audio/visual pieces for my current single ‘Animal’. I knew Curragh had been working on coding visual in his spare time and thought the cyclical nature of ‘Animal’ would be well suited to some moving kaleidoscopic shapes. He fully surpassed my expectations and has delivered a monochrome masterpiece incredibly sensitive to the ‘nature’ of the song. My debut album Ley Lines is about looking for patterns in nature where perhaps there are none, and I feel Curragh has developed that theme and made it his own.”
