Just over a year ago this month, the multi-award-winning Scottish Folk Singer Siobhan Miller released Mercury, her third solo album which featured a collection of self-written songs which Neil McFadyen, in his review for Folk Radio, called “a rich and perfectly balanced blend of traditional and contemporary sounds.” This week saw Siobhan kick off a special retrospective celebration which includes a live performance of Mercury along with her two other albums.
To mark the fifth anniversary of her debut album ‘Flight of Time’. She is performing each of her three solo albums in full across three nights at The Blue Arrow in her adopted home of Glasgow. This began yesterday so you’ve only tonight and tomorrow to catch her and these will be her last UK 2019 shows before heading to the US for December where she takes up a residency in Boston as part of Brian O’Donovan’s A Christmas Celtic Sojourn.
Siobhan Miller – Three Albums, Three Nights at The Blue Arrow, Glasgow
November 25th – Mercury
November 26th – Strata
November 27th – Flight of Time
For those of you who can’t make it, here is a recent live performance, in the living room, of Down in the Dandelions from Flight of Time with James Grant.
A little further into the future – and not long according to my kids who are eagerly counting the days, Siobhan will release her first Christmas single ‘At This Time of Year’ next month.
The song, written with producer Euan Burton, celebrates all the things we’ve come to associate with the festive period. Its sentimental message harks back to many of the classic Christmas songs of yesteryear, a feeling that is highlighted by the rich piano with woodwind and string section accompaniment.
If you’re a regular listener to our Folk Show, you may even hear it very soon.
