Last week, we reviewed Maz O’Connor‘s forthcoming album Chosen Daughter which is released tomorrow (25th October). Mike Davies it as “a very personal but equally universal album”. Ahead of the release, we have the pleasure in sharing Maz’s accompanying video for Cordelia on which she shared the following:
“I wrote a lot of this album in the wake of all of the #MeToo stories coming to light. This song came from my wanting to be able to express the truth of what I was feeling without fear of consequences. Cordelia, subconsciously, came to mind, I think, because of the character in King Lear. She’s the third daughter who stands up to a man in power and suffers the consequences. It’s the second single from my album ‘Chosen Daughter’ because after the first single San Francisco (which was more of a family story), I wanted to share another side of the album, which is very much my story.
“The video was made by Certain Light Films, a female-led, London-based film company founded by Sophia Carr-Gomm and Nina Yndis. It was filmed on location at the end of the summer and Nina was incredibly brave to get into the water for the final shots…it was not exactly warm water…”
Chosen Daughter is out on 25 October 2019
