The first time we featured Dan Webster on Folk Radio UK was for his album Tin Man, released in 2015. In his review of the album, Simon Holland concluded: “His delivery is passionate, stirring…this album boasts a big, big heart.” Dan followed that album with Devil Sky in 2018 on which he opened with the track “Playing cards in Late Night Bars”, the video for which we premiered here. While we’re used to seeing him surrounded by great players, who flesh out his finely detailed arrangements it’s sometimes quite a treat to see a more stripped-back performance.
Below, you can watch Dan and Emily Lawler doing just that. Taken from Devil Sky, they perform ‘Mary-Anne’ live for Dr Shakamoto’s ‘Live by the Lights’.
After a great summer tour including festival such as ‘Green Man’, ‘Shambala’ and Kendal Calling. Dan and the band are returning to the studio this winter to start work on the next album but there are still a few chances to catch him this year (see dates below).
