Canadian duo Pierre Schryer & Adam Dobres recently self-released their new album Mandorla. This album will transport you around the world – ten tracks of sheer high-end musical bliss.
As well as being an accomplished luthier, Schryer is also one of Canada’s leading traditional fiddle players while Dobres, an equally highly accomplished guitar player, has featured in many bands, from The Wailin’ Jennys to old-time string band Outlaw Social and the Dustin Bentall ensemble. As you can imagine, they have racked up a surprising number of awards and nominations between them.
Despite that impressive introduction, what really excites about this duo is their diversity of tunes and styles which covers music from Canada, Ireland, Algeria, Brazil, Quebec, and more. Watch them in action below performing a series of tunes.
In order, they are Berber Tune (traditional), Blue Fiddle (Steve Cooney) and Trip to Dingle (Alan Kelly). They are so good, a real tour de force, I could seriously listen to them all day.
Mandorla is out now.
