Patrick Watson has announced the release of ‘Wave’, his new album which will be released on October 18th via Domino (worldwide excluding Canada) / Secret City (Canada).
Accompanying the announcement is a video for new single Dream for Dreaming which is out now. The music video was directed by Joël Vaudreuil. Talking about the new song, Watson says: “When you come home and your house doesn’t look like the one you left and the strange feeling of being so far from what you had in mind that your skin doesn’t fit anymore. And you’re in the state of disbelief with a strange smile wondering what am I to do now.”
Waves is Patrick Watson’s sixth studio album which touches on the fragility of life and loss and the impact it has on those left behind. The accompanying press reveals that during the making of the album, Patrick when through a very personal and challenging time losing his mother, he and his partner separated and his longtime drummer left the group.
Not surprisingly, it’s very personal and intimate and is being called the most humble of all his records.
Reflecting on events in his personal life, and having begun his singing career in the church choir; Watson notes about the album: “It’s the difference between singing a solo at a stranger’s grave as a child and singing one at your own mother’s funeral.”
He will also embark on a worldwide tour including London’s Barbican; tickets are available now with full details below.
