Earlier this year, Dublin singer and Bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell released his third solo album, A Lifetime of Happiness. The album, which was produced by the world-famous Dónal Lunny (Planxty, The Bothy Band, Moving Hearts, Coolfin, Mozaik, LAPD, Usher’s Island), featured a fantastic array of musicians including Lunny on bass, keyboard, bouzouki and guitar; Pat Daly on fiddle, Sean Potts and Mark Redmond on Uileann pipes and whistles, Sean Garvey & Peter Browne on accordions, Robbie Walsh on bodhran, Tara Finn on concertina and backing vocals, Avril Crotty on cello, Maire Ni Chronain on backing vocals and Geoff Kinsella on mandolin.
The production was beautifully done, with the arrangements complimenting Daoirí’s singing, never once detracting from that voice, allowing him to deliver those songs with the infinite care and deep affection he’s become famous for. In his review of the album for Folk Radio, Neil McFadyen said it “delights on every level”; it most certainly did.
Over the summer, Daoirí’ has been busy playing across Ireland and at festivals including Moseley and Bromyard (today). Following a German tour, he returns to the UK in November for a series of dates across the country, details of which are below. But first, here he is performing Foggy Dew on RTÉ:
