We recently reviewed a limited edition photo-book of Onwards!, a five-decade celebration from veteran English folk & blues artist Ian A Anderson. In his brilliant in-depth review, David Pratt concluded:
A vitally important figure in the history of folk, roots, acoustic and World music, it is surely time for a full and appropriate recognition of his pivotal contribution.
The good news is that Ian is far from ready to hang up his hat and is ready to deliver more deathfolk, blues, psych-fi, trad & world twang…as he continues his re-born solo career with an upcoming trio of videos filmed at the Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol, kicking off with Black Crow Blues which is based on the early white blues Old Black Dog from the late 1920s.
Originally recorded by Dick Justice and Bayless Rose, Ian first heard it performed live by the heroic Spider John Koerner on his English tours in the mid-1960s. It has since encountered species migration, relocation and financial inflation! Crow Jane by Boss Morris beast mistress Alex Merry. It’s also out Song of the Day.
Ian’s next gig is part of the Weirdshire series at Babar Cafe, Union Street, Hereford on the Autumn Equinox, Sunday 22nd September (3pm)
