Storyline is the latest single from Stone Irr taken from his forthcoming sophomore album Performance due out September 20, 2019, via Darling Recordings. The strummed opening and muted drums slowly build with layered vocals and that warm sunshine West Coast vibe which contains some strands of Beach Boys DNA.
The title “Storyline” almost suggests some sort of preconceived fate although that’s very rarely how life plays out. But when you do get to a point and look back and see how all those previous moments fit in – like a path to where you are now, it can feel like that. It can be a cathartic and sobering experience…it can also take you to cloud-like heights:
“Storyline” was the first track I wrote when I moved to LA. It’s about the effects you experience well after the end of a relationship (“you left me blind, lovely”), how it leaves a mark on your life’s timeline (“my calendar is anchored in / a heartbreak that gave my life a map”), and how you move on from it (“change is on my mind”). I really wanted to write a song that had a higher vocal range to match the lyric “drive my mind to cloud-like heights”.
Stone Irr’s new record Performance will be available worldwide September 20th, 2019 on limited-edition yellow vinyl, black vinyl, CD, and cassette via Darling Recordings.
