This year’s Fleadh was held in Drogheda in County Louth for the second time and with last years event attracting 500,000 people there was again no shortage of competitions, workshops, sessions. There there was the performances – one band that stood out was Folk Radio UK favourites Jiggy (you may recall their video for Silent Place that went viral).
They had a few surprises up their sleeve and certainly didn’t hold back. For Skelling, they were joined by Fusion Fighters Dancer Troupe, the mesmerising dancer Saptha Raman joined them on Tāl and they performed a great Irish dub version of Galway Shawl. Feast your eyes and ears on this:
Be sure to check out their album Translate.
What Jiggy do most successfully is prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that music is the heart and soul of the thriving, all-embracing multi-cultural arts scene in the Irish Republic. Translate is an exceptional and intoxicating album that will find its way into the heart and soul of an ever-increasing audience. Neil McFadyen, Folk Radio UK
