Time really does have a way of playing tricks with your mind, but yes, it really has been nearly 15 years since Hootie & the Blowfish released an album. Looking for Lucky, released in 2005, was praised for its more diverse sound which saw the band joined by guests New Grass Revival. Their sound has been described as a blend of pop, folk, blues, soul and rock, while this may have made them hard to pigeon-hole it hasn’t deterred some inventive suggestions including “rootsy, granola-rock” by Slant Magazine.
The title of their new album, ‘Imperfect Circle’ (out November 1st in the UK), is a take on R.E.M’s Perfect Circle (Murmur 1983) which the band say is one of their favourite R.E.M tracks and the slight twist of the title reflects on the journey we all take through life as revealed in their recent album-launch video below:
According to Billboard Boxscore, the band achieved “the highest attendance figures of their career” on this year’s Group Therapy tour in the US, needless to say, expectations are running high for the UK and Ireland leg of the tour in October, see dates below.
