In his review of Curve Of Earth by Ohtis, a Dark Americana trio featuring Sam Swinson, Adam Pressley and Nate Hahn, Danny Neill called it “an album that stares down some of life’s darkest back holes” and it entered those dark holes right from the opener ‘Pervert Blood’.
Despite the dark nature of the songs which Swinson openly declares are autobiographical, there are upbeat sounding elements which prove difficult to resist, especially on tracks like Runnin; Ohtis clearly have something unique to offer.
The review touches on some of the personal battles Swinson has dealt with including his battle with heroin addiction which led to him reforming the band. Danny concludes:
“The result is an amazing album of emotional depth, scolding honesty amidst self-reflection but above all, a sharp focus on the basic truth that where there’s life there’s hope. In compiling the composition works that document the difficult years Sam has lived through, the song collection ‘Curve Of Earth’ scoops up buckets of hope as it sails doggedly through these real-life troubled waters.”
Ohtis are returning to Europe and will play their debut Paris show on 28th Aug (it’s free) following which they will head to the UK for a string of dates. To celebrate, Full Time Hobby are releasing a deluxe version of “Curve of Earth” which includes four extra tracks, freshly mixed and mastered.
