Harrow are getting ready to host their first-ever Folk Festival. Folk on the Hill takes place at the Ryan Theatre on 10/11 August 2019. The lineup includes Reg Meuross, Holy Moly and the Crackers, Grace Petrie, India Electric Company, Odette Michelle and more. The festival is the brainchild of Jim T, a state school physics teacher.
Jim’s love of folk music goes back a long way. From buying Eric Bogle and his band a drink in a pub gig to going on an anti-facist demonstration with the words of ‘Cable Street’ by The Young’uns playing in his mind or listening to ‘England Green and England Grey’ by Reg Meuross. Jim has always found inspiration for life in music.
A full-time teacher, Jim encourages his pupils to strive to meet their dreams, and bringing a festival to Harrow has long been his own dream. “I want to bring great music to this area of London, to put world-class musicians in front of an appreciative audience and to give a platform to exciting emerging artists who deserve to be heard by more people.”
Headliners of the weekend festival include protest singer-songwriters Grace Petrie and Reg Meuross as well as the brilliant authority on Woody Guthrie Will Kaufman and bands India Electric Company and Holy Moly & the Crackers. London based artists include Odette Michell who has been invited to work with Phil Beer, West London’s Craig Joiner and Tom Reid who Mick Harding has described as ’the real deal’ as well as Ron Truman-Border and jazz/folk group Beaubowbelles. Opening the festival will be London’s Man the Lifeboats ‘Like a stripped-back Bellowhead for cynical city dwellers’ – Alt Revue.
Festival attractions include the featured artists, up and coming singers and musicians, dance troops, various workshops, story-telling, food, drink, crafts and good company.
If you’re interested in going, please buy your tickets now as doing so will help ensure the future of this festival in these difficult times. If you can’t make then please help spread the word.
