As many of you will know, Bill Jones recently made a comeback after a fifteen-year hiatus. Her album, Wonderful Fairytale (released on May 1st) was a Featured Album of the Month which Neil McFadyen reviewed for Folk Radio UK who concluded that is was “an exceptional album that fulfils the promise of her early career and confirms that this gifted performer still has so much to offer”.
Today, we have the pleasure in sharing her view for the title which is now also available on all digital platforms including Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music (as well as via Bill’s shop on Bandcamp).
The video was shot in April 2019 at Bill’s house by music photographer/videographer David Wala. The song was inspired when Bill researched the traditional song “Lavender’s Blue”, which she had long intended to sing. However, on recognising her own life in the song’s description of a wife waiting at home for her husband, Bill wrote her alternative in Wonderful Fairytale, telling of changing path and finding her way back to performing and recording. The song features a string quartet as well as Ian Stephenson on guitar and double bass, and was recorded at Ian’s studio in Northumberland.
