Our Song of the Day comes from the incredibly refreshing sound of Norwegian electronic folk act Space Klezmer Goylem who have released their first cinematic music video and single, ISOMORFIK. Made in collaboration with art collective, Studio ^O^, the video was directed by Ann Holmgren and is competing for the Best Music Video award at the Norwegian Short Film Festival this summer.
In the video, we follow a group of sound scientists across a desolate coastal landscape in search of the primaeval sound of the universe. As events unfold, what seems to be a fabricated UFO sighting leads to the discovery of a portal into a dimension populated by entities living and breathing exclusively in sound.
Nikolai Aurebekk who plays accordion and synthesizers in the band:
“With Isomorfik, we feel we have recreated some of the magic sparks that occur in Goylem’s live performances. The music video format is an extended musical space allowing an escape from the rectangle-staring state of consciousness that many spend most of their lives in – and thrust into an imaginal world that is more real than real.
“The folk music tradition is a space ship that can take us back thousands of years in time, and also – we believe – deep into the future. The challenge is that traditional music often loses some of its spirit when recorded. It is a living practice based on spontaneous interaction, intimacy with the audience and, not least, dance and singing.”
Space Klezmer Goylem has been playing for small and large crowds in most of Norway’s music scenes, and in festivals throughout Europe. Goylem’s sound can be described as a sweet spot point between psychedelic prog, Middle Eastern electronica and traditional European klezmer and folk music.
