She is a member of the chamber-folk quartet RANT, plays on viola and fiddle with Salt House, is a member of the Rachel Newton Band and is in a duo with flautist Calum Stewart; she’s also considered one of Scotland’s most expressive fiddle players. I am of course talking about Lauren MacColl whose solo work is steeped in the rich culture of the Highlands. One of her most celebrated works was a new commission for Feis Rois in 2017 titled ‘The Seer’ which followed with an album in 2018 featuring 40 minutes of music based on the life and prophecies of the Brahan Seer.
Audiences now have the opportunity to enjoy a live performance of The Seer, along with some new music, as she tours across Scotland from 21-29th of June. The tour was made possible by Creative Scotland and comes with the added bonus of her being accompanied with a full band featuring Mairearad Green, Megan Henderson/Bethany Reid, Signy Jakibsdottir, Anna Massie and Rachel Newton. See dates and ticket links below.
Lauren has also announced the publication of her first printed tune book! 44 melodies including all the tunes from The Seer. ‘To The North…’ is now available to pre-order worldwide. She will be shipping these out from 1/7/19. Order’s placed before 1st July shipping date includes an immediate download of the ‘Lady Isabella’ track from the Seer. Order here.
In related news, a new RANT album was recorded in January which we hope to hear soon and Lauren is just off to record with Salt House for a new album so lots to look forward to.
