Our Song of the Day comes from Steve Gunn with the third and final instalment of the live acoustic song series from his critically acclaimed new album, The Unseen In Between, out now on Matador Records. The video coincides with the end of his UK tour, which included a triumphant a sold-out show at London’s Oslo on April 5th and dates in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.
The album has been making waves since its release and was recently reviewed on Folk Radio by David Weir who described the album as “befitting of its title; a mysterious and mesmeric edgeland offering glimpses into the underbelly of a half-remembered neighbourhood, and the trials and habits of its outcasts”, he concludes “you might just become rapt by something that really does have the power to take your breath away altogether.”
Filmed by The Mitcham Submarine in London’s Albert Memorial, the stripped-back rendition of ‘Chance’ highlights the songs humanistic meditation on those living on the fringes, just trying to get by.
Steve Gunn is also a much-admired collaborator, he recently added further production credits to his name for Michael Chapman’s critically acclaimed new album, True North (reviewed here), and playing an improvised set with Ryley Walker at Brooklyn’s Union Pool. He will also be performing a special soundtrack to Andy Warhol’s Kiss alongside Kim Gordon, Bill Nace, and John Truscinski, at the opening of Gordon’s Lo-Fi Glamour exhibition on May 16th at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
Gunn has announced a new run of headline North American tour dates this summer, beginning July 24th in Portland, and ending with a hometown show at Brooklyn’s Industry City on August 3rd. See details below.
