Our Song of the Day comes from London-based five-piece The Alvarez Theory with ‘By the River’, their first single taken from their eponymous debut album due for release on May 24th, 2019, with the album launch taking place at Camden’s Green Note on the same date.
By The River opens the album, with its haunting tale of loss, regret and the lies we tell ourselves. Moody guitars roll through the song like arterial railroads and a river that serve as a backdrop to this outlaw’s lament. Watch the accompanying video below:
This impressive debut features a concise collection of guitar and fiddle woven tales written by German / Spanish born songwriter Diana Diehl. What initially started as a solo project in Bremen, Germany where Diana supported British bands and singers like Ash’s Charlotte Heatherley; has flourished into a 5 piece band over the last few years. The Alverez Theory is Dee Diehl (vocals, guitar), Sarah Louise Bates (bass, vocals), Julia O’Hanlon (fiddle, concertina, vocals), Mark Patterson (mandolin, banjo, guitar) and Flo Miller (drums). The album was recorded over the course of ten days at Nick Harris’s Spareroom Recording studio in north London.
Album Launch: Green Note – Friday 24th May
