Our Song of the Day comes from Lonesome Leash, the solo project Walt McClement, best known for his multi-instrumental work in Dark Dark Dark. Watch his new music video for lead single “Driving” (ft. Mirah) off recent release Delicate Art. “Driving” relays a message about movement, in some ways, movement with an unknown or unstated purpose. That theme is described in the music video as a road movie meets lo-fi sci-fi, and we follow McClements and a mysterious spaceperson on their respective journeys to rendezvous at a point in the desert, for purposes unknown. (Directed by Lessa Millet.)
McClement is uniquely independent in his approach to music and sounds like nothing else out there, plotting his own course through unchartered territories. Make sure you seek out some of the live sessions he has recorded, he throws his heart and soul into his performances and the alternative music scene is all the richer for him.
His album Delicate Art explores the apparent tension between solitude and connection. Tension is not necessarily strife, and McClements analyzes the fine and delicate balance between being alone and being in congress. The album also comprises of McClements decidedly queer love songs, which offer a critique, even an invalidation, of the love song tropes which have come before.
