Fitty Gomash are a breath of fresh air for the folk world, a rabble-rousing eight-piece from the West Country that embrace traditional music as it was intended; bringing people together to shake the floorboards and raise the rafters. Today, they are releasing a new video for the single, Jim Jones, taken from their album No Man for our Times. The song is a traditional Australian transportation ballad written about Jim Jones who is convicted in England for poaching and sent to the penal colony of New South Wales.
The playfulness that binds this tight-knit group of friends creates an infectious and engaging energy on stage that has led to them developing a strong following around the country.
They take a no-nonsense approach to traditional music whether they’re playing riotous pub sessions, knees-up ceilidhs or festival mainstages. Boldly unfussy arrangements underpinned by adept musicianship and high-energy performances.
Their fondness for storming barns is contrasted against more considered moments, with well-crafted folksongs that speak of social and political struggles old and new.
Set all this against a backdrop of Celtic tunes, delivered with zeal at ceilidhs across the land, and you have a resulting concoction that really does do as their name, in Orcadian Gaelic, suggests; keeping your feet warm through dancing.
Fitty Gomash are preparing to embark on a summer of live shows. Catch them at, amongst others, Shambala and Green Man festivals… and a word of warning, if they start to call a ceilidh, hold onto your hats!
