Johnny Pictish Trail, the head honcho at Lost Map Records on the Isle of Eigg, got in touch with us recently to ask if we’d like to premiere the video for ‘Go Again’ by 360° makers of kaleidoscopic electro-acoustic audio-visual wonderment Grasscourt, AKA Tom Percival and Matt Lacey from Stroud, Gloucestershire. ‘Go Again’ is the lead track taken from their forthcoming ‘Connect Part One EP’ being released by Lost Map Records this Friday as part of their PostMap Club series (https://www.lostmap.com/club). Starting with simple acoustic guitar figure, the track expands into blissful psychedelic electronica – how could we possibly resist?
‘Connect Part One EP’ will be released on March 29, 2019 as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service – which sees members posted two brand new EPs or singles every month as snail-mail postcards stamped with unique download codes. It follows Grasscourt’s debut double A-side single for Lost Map – ‘Come Alive’ b/w ‘Stones Upon My Chest’ – which was released last year. Grasscourt will next play live at The Goods Shed in Stroud on Saturday, April 6, supporting The Orb Sound System as part of Sound Records’ first birthday.
Matt has played with a whole host of other bands and projects in the past including Bristol’s OLO Worms, Delifinger and Gorlkeepers, while Tom is an author and illustrator of children’s books with a background in animation. The pair craft all of their own visuals as well as sounds, including their own sensational videos. The ‘Connect Part One EP’ is a collection of songs taken from the same recording sessions as last year’s debut single. Kicking off a set of three releases – with parts two and three to follow later in the year – part one takes listeners on a journey through self-reflection, relationships, déjà vu and sandwiches, via a mish-mash of acoustic instruments, hypnotic synths, bass grooves and vocal harmonies. Recorded, produced and mixed in Tom’s attic studio, the tracks are all staples of the Grasscourt live set, which has seen the band’s line-up expand to five members over the last few months.
