I Do It All The Time is the forthcoming single (out tomorrow on Veta Records) from alt-folk songstress Sive – aka Sadhbh O’Sullivan. The bright stringed opening almost leads the listener into the expectation that there is a bright and cheerful song about to follow which is soon put to bed by the opening line “I’m scared to be honest.” It’s a statement that resonates with many I’m sure, we tend to try and hide our fears of being judged or having our weaknesses exposed but here, Sive is beautifully honest and candid in her lyrics while the musical arrangements mirror a vast array of inner-emotions of turmoil, confusion and frustration without ever sounding disjointed. It’s a powerful and mesmerising song, made all the more poignant by those clever musical embellishments and Sive’s moving and emotive vocals.
Growing up, Sive was obsessed with time signatures, unusual chord progressions and the melodies that she’d hear in world music. She has since continued to hone her sound, playing an array of instruments and sharing stages with the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Cathy Davey, Mick Flannery, Christy Moore and Gemma Hayes along the way. I’ve no doubt that this new single will continue the upward trajectory set by her critically acclaimed previous singles.
I Do It All The Time, the third single to be taken from Sive’s upcoming EP, is out on 15th March 2019 via Veta Records.
