East London is the setting for the latest episode of Matthew Bannister’s chart-topping Folk on Foot podcast, out today. Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter from Stick in the Wheel take Matthew from a Victorian weaver’s house in Spitalfields where they sing “Four Loom Weaver” to Walthamstow Market and the Rose and Crown pub where the pair performed their first folk gigs. Here they sing “Up to the Rigs of London Town” and their song about the 2011 London riots “Me ‘n’ Becky”. Finally, they head for the Eastenders’ playground Epping Forest where they’re joined by the band’s fiddle player Ellie Wilson for “All The Things”. Matthew said: “If you thought Folk on Foot was just about tripping through the countryside smelling the flowers, this episode will make you think again”.
