This week’s show features new music from LAU’s new album Midnight and Closedown which was released today. In his album review of the album, Neil McFadyen concluded: “This music has been honed and refined with intimate care and attention to detail. This is music in evolution – tempo and dynamics are in constant motion, in a state of flux that’s paused and re-started like a tape machine. Melody, poetry, emotion and memory weave in and out like stories. Midnight And Closedown is the next chapter in Lau’s fascinating story. As ever from Lau, it’s a unique and exceptional album.”
Michael Chapman’s new album True North was also released today which Glenn Kimpton reviewed here, concluding: “The strength of the songs, the simplicity of the strong acoustic guitar core matched with sympathetic and skilful playing throughout results in an album that is lean, unpretentious, wonderfully played and so very listenable throughout.”
The rest is an eclectic musical meandering from John Renbourn live in Kyoto (1978), Luke Gibson (from his 1971 album Another Perfect Day), Dando Shaft, Sandy Denny, Mountain Man, Piers Faccini and more. A fairly relaxed Affair.
Enjoy
