Following the release of Lleuwen’s latest album ‘Gwn Glân Beibl Budr’ in November last year the singer/songwriter from Rhiwlas, now living in Brittany, is pleased to announce that she’ll be performing a series of acoustic gigs in chapels across Wales. Lleuwen will perform solo and invite a different guest for performance or talk every night.
To coincide with the tour announcement Lleuwen has revealed a video of the opening track of her latest album – ‘Myn Mair’(By Mary) – it’s a song of prayer that dates before the 16th-century protestant reformation. Collected by Robin Gwyndaf who heard it by Myra Evans of Ceinewydd. She was born in 1883 and had learned the song by her great-grandfather. You can view the video in full below.
Twisting ancient hymns to her own compositions, Gwn Glân Beibl Budr (Clean Gun Dirty Bible) takes the Welsh hymn book and throws it into the Age of Misinformation. Live, raw and often improvised, Lleuwen brought an extremely varied mix of musicians together to create her most rooted and experimental album to date. Musically and lyrically, Gwn Glân Beibl Budr explores polar opposites: addiction and spirituality; violent guitar strumming with angelic vocals; disconnection in the era of connectivity; historical amnesia. Crashing drums play the role of a beast of prey with the harp playing the role of a young seedling. Songs about urbanism and shrinking rural areas; road traffic, phone traffic, mind traffic.
Gwn Glân Beibl Budr is Lleuwen’s fourth studio album, it follows on from Tân and Penmon and Duw a wyr/God only knows.
