Taken from Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou‘s gorgeous new album Fair Lady London (reviewed here), watch their new video for When Spring Calls which is also our Song of the Day. Trevor shared the following on the song:
‘I initially wrote the song for Hannah-Lou to sing solo. It was inspired by my many bike rides over the years through Pett Level marshlands, just to the east of Hastings where we live. I see birds come and go and change with the seasons. They fly off to faraway lands and then I’ll see them return again next year, sometimes the same individuals I’m sure, and wonder where they’ve been, what incredible journeys they’ve been on. But it’s not really about birds. It’s about longing for adventure, something more. About feeling small and alone, and left behind, and having the courage to stay put and see things through.’ Trevor Moss
“Following, and possibly in reaction to, the Ethan Johns production of 2015’s ‘Expatriot’ album, ‘Fair Lady London’ sees a return to the lo-fi Tascam 246 cassette recorder last used in 2012. By their own admission, this is a preference, as the limited options in audio trickery really focuses the recordings on performance and feeling. Across this latest long player, the pairs fifth album, the songs are of a standard that any major label indie band ticking off the production reference points by committee could not get close to.” Danny Neill – Review of Fair Lady London.
