This session was recorded for BBC Radio Scotlands’ excellent Travelling Folk series earlier this year. Watch Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton in a ten-piece collective performing four tracks from their latest album Symbiosis II (Kings, Birds, Mink and Action). Symbiosis II was a Featured Album of the Month on Folk Radio UK and has been nominated for the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Album of the Year’ alongside Ross Ainslie’s Sanctuary (which was also a Featured Album of the Month). Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton have yet again proven themselves to be not only masters of Scottish traditional music but at the very forefront of the movement that continues to breathe new life into that music, inspiring the next generation. Symbiosis was beguiling, Symbiosis II is utterly hypnotic. Extract from Neil McFadyen’s review of Symbiosis II.
Ross has also just released a new single with Runrig guitarist Malcolm Jones called Hope in the Chaos (buy it here) which includes a dance remix by S5E. 15% of the profits from the single will be donated to SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health). Listen below.
