In 2016 we reviewed an album by North Tyne troubadours The Brothers Gillespie. The fiddle and guitar duo consists of brothers James and Sam (Gillespie) who are based in the market town of Hexham in Northumberland.
David Kidman described Songs from the Outland as both a captivating and impressive album in which he was struck by their own unique style – “Weaving an especially compelling magic…the music of the Brothers feeds off the primal power of the landscape.”
The good news is that they are releasing a new album – The Fell – “inspired by the still wild soul of the land in which we live, a land alive with presences, not owned by anyone. It is an album about seeing with the eye of the heart and overcoming the materialist orthodoxies which threaten to imprison our imaginations. It is about finding home, belonging and each other in a world which is singing to us as we sing to it.” Here they are performing Coventina’s Daughter live.

They are part way through a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the release with just 5 days left to run. I encourage you to help support them, I’m a firm believer that we need more music like this – you can head over to their support page where there are some very nice rewards available including CD, vinyl as we all as artwork, live concert and ceilidh. Get on board.
