Currently mid-way through an 11-date US tour, British singer-songwriter Roo Panes has today released a Chris Thomas directed video to go with his latest single ‘Ophelia’.
Taken from his latest album ‘Quiet Man’, this new version of the track sees Roo collaborating with Mt. Wolf frontman, Bassi Fox, who provides additional production and mixing on the track. He shared the following about the track:
“This version of Ophelia is slightly different to the album track. I felt like I wanted it to be more fully realised, and had been wanting to add a few things for a richer sound. It was great to go into the studio with Bassi Fox again. This song started off as a hum a number of years ago and harks back to some of the more Celtic folk melodies I used to love. Ophelia was a famous heroine in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet – a figure of tragedy and confusion – and it felt like the perfect motif and way into telling the story I was singing about personally. It’s all about reminding someone that life’s a gift and they’ve got something to give, and about wanting to see them flourish.”
The video was Directed by Chris Thomas and is about dealing with the loss of someone, but by coming together they find some relief and re-discover a sense of hope which reflects the sentiments of the song, reminding someone that life’s a gift and they’ve got something to give. It was great to work with Chris and his team on this video, they really did a beautiful job.
Talking about the video Chris added:
“On first listening, the track transported my mind to the sea; standing at the water’s edge, looking out to the horizon as the gentle waves crash against the pebbled rocks. We built the narrative around these foundations, a simple story about memories, hope, and the healing power of the ocean.”
