Our Song of the Day is The Western Edge take from Siobhan Miller‘s newest album ‘Mercury’ which is set to be released this Friday, November 2nd.
The album is something of a landmark being Siobhan’s first album of entirely original material. The Western Edge was inspired by the poem ‘A Song Among the Stones’ written by Scottish writer Kenneth Steven. The poem describes the pilgrimage made by 6th-century monks living on Iona who are believed to have travelled to Iceland in search of solitude. Siobhan says “After reading Kenneth’s book I was lucky enough to visit Iona. The song was inspired by Kenneth’s words and by the beauty of Iona, imagining the lives of the communities who lived here years ago and the dangers faced when making these journeys on the sea.”
The track features some of Scotland’s top musicians including Innes White, Kris Drever and Lauren MacColl.
