The award-winning trio, Besarabia, is a group from Valencia, Spain. They amalgamate the music they love; music from the Balkans, the Mediterranean and Klezmer, into a very personal, idiosyncratic style. They play a combination of arrangements of traditional tunes and their own compositions, that not only take their influence from the aforementioned styles but also from flamenco, jazz and rap etc.
They view their music as music without borders, a cooking pot of flavours and spices, in which each time a new exciting combination emerges. They have played at numerous folk festivals all over Spain, including this year Cartagena Folk, Xabia Folk and Danzas sin Fronteras in Toledo. They will be presenting their cd “Ritmos, trenzas y gatos” (Rhythms, Plaits and Cats) in the UK in November, with concerts in Oxford, London and Reading (see details below).
