All-female, contemporary Scottish folk band The Poozies have been pushing musical boundaries for over 25 years and this latest incarnation takes them in an exciting new direction. Joining original member Mary MacMaster and long-term cohort Eilidh Shaw are Tia Files on guitar, bass drum & vocals, and Sarah McFadyen on fiddle, 5-string banjo & vocals. The new album, ‘Punch’, released in May 2018 (reviewed here), has been enjoying fantastic reviews, all of which paint a picture of undaunted energy, seduction, mischief and invention.
Soaking In The Bathtub, Sarah McFadyen’s song for independence, is sung in her ‘grittily stunning’ Orcadian burr and accompanied by a strikingly original and unpretentious video, beautifully filmed on the island of Eigg by Ben Cormack, and produced, directed & edited by The Poozies themselves.
Sarah says, “I wrote Soaking during the time of the Scottish Indy referendum, but it’s about anyone or anything that needs to gain independence from a situation. It can be taken as personally or universally as you wish.”
The single, which is released this Friday 7th September, will be available on digital download from the band’s website and Bandcamp and includes the bonus, previously unreleased track ‘Blackberry’.
