This Friday sees the release of a new digital single from Ireland’s Brigid Mae Power on Tompkins Square Label. Earlier this year her critically acclaimed album The Two Worlds made waves; our own reviewer, David Kidman, called it musically mesmeric…we’ve certainly fallen under her spell.
The “A” side of the new single features a piano-accompanied Is My Presence In The Room Enough For You? which, like her last album, retains that dreamlike ambience. It’s accompanied by a beautifully animated video by Cian Hogan on which Brigid shared the following:
“The video was made by the Irish illustrator, now living in Canada, Cian Hogan. We talked about areas in Ireland that we liked, and he made this animation intertwining Irish folklore and stories in the landscapes. I saw his work on Instagram last year and immediately reached out to him!”
It’s also our Song of the Day.
The B-side features an irresistible cover of a Fred Neil classic The Dolphins which has been covered by the likes of Linda Ronstadt and Tim Buckley. Take a listen below.
Brigid is supporting Damien Jurado on tour next month followed by a number of dates including James Yorkston Presents: Tae Sup Wi’ A Fifer at which she will be joined by Justin Currie and Nell Ní Chróinín. This is followed by a rare London Tompkins Square bill on 26 Oct featuring Brigid, Gwenifer Raymond, Duck Baker.
