Lovers of first-class Irish traditional music will be more than familiar with the name Dervish who have been delighting audiences across the globe for more than 25 years playing festivals from Glastonbury to Rock in Rio, the worlds biggest music festival.
Formed in 1989, the band features a line-up of the finest traditional musicians, all steeped in the musical traditions of counties Sligo and Leitrim in north-west Ireland, and fronted by one of the country’s best-known singers, Cathy Jordan (also a great bodhran player). Alongside Cathy are the four original founders: Shane Mitchell (accordion), Liam Kelly (flute/whistle), Brian McDonagh (mandola/mandolin), Michael Holmes (bouzouki) as well as all Ireland Fiddle Champion Tom Morrow who joined in ’98.
Here they are, joined by Kevin Burke, Seamie O’Dowd & Rick Epping to perform “Farewell to Éireann” live on FleadhTV, also our Tune of the Day.
