At the end of 2017, Bella Hardy, with the aid of a successful Kickstarter Campaign, released Hey Sammy, a studio album that saw her grabbing a new found freedom to express her own songs that were born out of inspiration from travels far afield – Humanist hymns, ancient Chinese poems, feminist battle cries, a title track’s reflections on the rise of racism in Britain and a retelling of the supernatural ballad Tam Lin.
If this gets anywhere the amount of airplay it deserves it could well win Hardy a host of new fans. Steve Lockley, Folk Radio UK
Some of those influences came from an earlier residency in Yunnan province which led to the release of her Eternal Spring EP the same year. The following short documentary was made about that visit.
Now, fans have the opportunity to hear her performing Hey Sammy live with stripped back instrumentation as she heads out on tour this autumn with only her two fiddles and harmonium for company.
The tour kicks off at The Witham in Country Durham next week (4th October) and culminates in a show at London’s Cecil Sharp House on 24th October, see dates below.
