Spirit Fest, are an impromptu indie Avant-pop supergroup featuring Tokyo-based duo Tenniscoats (Saya and Takashi Ueno), Markus Acher (The Notwist), Cico Beck (Aloa Input) and Mat Fowler (Jam Money). They have just shared their music video for Anohito, their latest single and title track from their forthcoming album due for release via Morr Music / Alien Transistor & Afterhours in September.
There is an underlying charm and playful vibe to their music that I’m irresistibly drawn to, which is why it’s our Song of the Day. I saw the word ‘egoless’ used in the press to describe their music and maybe that’s partly the attraction…in the same way that I’m drawn to the music of Rachael Dadd and those Japanese artists she celebrated recently in a feature we ran here, the music of Spirit Fest has that same magnetism.
