Watch ‘My Baby’ by Glasgow singer/songwriter Jill Jackson, taken from her latest album ‘Are We There Yet?’ In Jill’s case, we can safely say she has definitely arrived and with her best offering yet. She shared the following:
“My Baby is taken from my 5th Studio album Are We There Yet? I started writing this album after a bucket list hike of the Grand Canyon. The silence and isolation closed my mind off in a way I had never experienced before. I then took time out after a major hip operation (Yes …..in retrospect the Grand Canyon was not a good idea!). I think it is the first time I have been able to stop and look back at my life. At 19 I was signed to a major label playing Top of The Pops, Arena tours and travelling the world. It was a whirlwind. So I suddenly found myself looking back at all aspects of life.
“My Baby is an old timey style song which shows the fun side of a relationship. You feel the fun in the melody and tempo. The style of the song is influenced by my love of Benny Goodman. It makes you want to dance. It explains that ‘one’ relationship in life where everything just works. A relationship that is simple, fun and you feel it is the most unique thing in the world.
“The song and album was produced by the incredible Boo Hewerdine (Eddi Reader, Emily Barker). I have been a huge fan of Boo’s writing and production work for such a long time so when he agreed to work on the album I was ecstatic. I had to create detailed demos of each song for the album. I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound. Boo helped me recreate and emulate the demos in the studio. He added that piece of magic…..like he always does.”
