Watch Precipice – the official music video by The Super Saturated Sugar Strings which was filmed at the Bunnell Arts Center in Homer, Alaska and at Point Woronzof in Anchorage, Alaska by Kevin Co and Cail Hubert. The song features on their latest album All Their Many Miles on which they’ve managed to translate not only the high energy stomp and swing of their live shows to the studio, but also to capture some of the magic that brings together Anchorage’s music community. A windswept town on the edge of the Alaska ocean, Anchorage has a remarkably robust music scene, one characterized by unconditional support among bands and wildly passionate audiences. They shared the following on the inspiration behind Precipice:
“The song was inspired by a trip to Point Woronzof in Anchorage, Alaska to visit this daring and unconventional art installation that was a part of the 100 Stone Project., The project is an art project of live-cast sculptures meant to capture stories of personal wellness to draw attention to mental illness. It’s an exquisite and courageous endeavor led by our dear friend, Sarah Davies. The video features shots from the 100 Stone Project, and live band shots from the Bunnell Arts Center in Homer, Alaska, where we wrote the new album. This is the place where the vast majority of our music is realized. We try to make an annual retreat there to write. The art installations change each year and the work becomes a part of every song. The installation featured in the video was all made entirely from ordinary weeds, seeds, tree bark and other natural materials harvested in late fall and winter. These artistic partnerships are vitally important to us, they express our values and we think they are a compelling part of our story as stewards of community building.”
The gallery installation in the video is by Mandy Bernard (more details here).
