After premiering Sitting on a Boat last month, we are mighty pleased to be offering you another instalment from Nashville troubadour Riley Moore’s forthcoming debut album Vagrant, set for release on June 29th.
Pancakes and M&Ms features Ben Roberts of Carolina Story on harmonica and was produced by Beach Vibes. It was written for Riley’s mom as a Mother’s Day gift a while back, and all of the stories mentioned in it are true of his boyhood growing up in Leiper’s Fork, TN with three brothers.
Riley shared the following: “This song is my boyhood on canvas. It’s about growing up in the country south of Nashville and fighting my three brothers to give dad the first hug when he got home from work. It’s about playing with snakes and crawdads in the creek, digging a city of holes in the backyard and pitching off a mound my brother built for me in the field. We had a good time and I’m grateful for it. I wrote this song as a Mother’s Day gift for my mom when I was 19 and living in Sydney, Australia sitting in boxers because our house had no air conditioning. The single art is a photograph of my brother John Reagan and me in overalls and baseball caps. I wear overalls all the time now because they’re simple and baseball was my first love. If you look closely you can see our mom holding us up on the tree branch.”
