Working together on Michiel’s music which is a blend of folk, jazz and soul they have moulded original compositions, never scared to blur the lines between genres.
Having his first album recorded Michiel is set to release a series of feature tracks over the first half of 2018 the latest being “They Don’t See” which is also our Song of the Day. He shared the following.
I wrote ‘They Don’t See’ a while back. The song is a protest about western intervention in the Middle East, particularly the airstrikes happening in Syria. I was inspired to write the song after speaking to a man, who worked for the military, outside one of my gigs. He was a pleasant guy and spoke proudly of the military, telling me how accomplished he felt to be a part of it. Prior to this, I had been reading quite a lot about the atrocities of the Middle East and how airstrikes were killing hundreds-of-thousands of innocent people. I wanted to juxtapose these two ideas by writing about the pride felt towards military intervention and the pain and destruction caused to people living in Syria. Despite the song having a fundamentally controversial message, in essence, it is a call out for peace.
