Strangers Again is the new single from Alexander Wren, a young singer and prolific songwriter whose vocal pace and inflection on this achingly fragile number reminds me of Willie Nelson’s style (a comparison not made lightly). Like Nelson, Wren has a natural gift for those subtle natural touches (a pause or half laugh) which sound genuine and unforced, so much so that he takes the listener to another level – one that’s more poignant and real. Hats off to you…

He shared the following on the song:
Strangers Again is a testament to the power of diligence and devotion to craft… I am a songwriter. I wrote over 300 songs in my four-year span of college. At the beginning of the feat, I told myself that if I wanted to get serious, I needed to show up every day- writing even when un-inspired… And most days, that led to “just another” song. But on one occasion it led to, Strangers Again. One of the fastest songs I’ve ever written- an hour tops, Strangers Again explores the friction between former lovers, and very simply. How can you love someone for so long, and then, on a dime, become so estranged that it’s almost as if you never said hello in the first place. Never even knew his/her name. Echoing the generations of songwriters past, every lyric rests upon the traditional, turn of phrase hook, “You call it friends // Just strangers again.”
I entrusted my good friend, Micah Tawlks (Jake McMullen, Matthew Perryman Jones), to bring the song to life through production. The resulted ended in dry vox, phase on steel, and a warbling Rhodes; all printed straight to tape on an old mastering deck. With eclectic production references, some being, Roy Rodgers, Paul Simon, and John Lennon’s Harry Nilsson; the result ended in an interesting yet equally honest master. And this is the balance I am constantly striving for.
Strangers Again will be released on the 29th of June 2018 in affiliation with Nashville’s own, Peptalk Presents.
