We recently announced the release of Toby Hay’s new album The Longest Day, recorded live over four days in Giant Wafer studios in Wales and mixed by Toby’s brother Tim, it is, for me personally, one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. With the album announcement, we shared his video for the first single The Longest Day. The longest day is, of course, the summer solstice (June 21st), also the day on which Toby’s album will be released. Don’t miss his album launch on 20th July with support from Jim Ghedi (details below).
We have the pleasure of sharing his new single and our Tune of the Day ‘Curlew (Part 1)’, a track on which he explores loss and grief, the circularity of time and its healing qualities.
“The Curlew first called at the funeral of a family friend. The coming of Spring.
The return. Its call mourning the ghosts of those no longer with us, and the loss of its own habitat.
Its rhythm is sacred. It leaves, and it returns. To hear it is to think of summer.”
“We never keep to the present. We anticipate the future as if we found it too slow in coming, or we recall the past as if to stay its rapid flight. We are so unwise that we wander about in times that are not ours & blindly flee the only one that is.”
(Blaise Pascal, Pensées, trans A.J. Krailsheimer)
