Islander music company has released the first of four announcements in the ‘Islander Presents’ series – an ambitious touring circuit for four of Ireland’s most exciting traditional and folk acts.
Coming up in July and August, folk/trad duo Ye Vagabonds are set to embark on a tour of some of Ireland’s most picturesque islands. Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn will perform to those who inhabit our most sparse and barren sods of earth off in the Atlantic, and fill them with tunes and tales, young and old, on summer evenings. The band will be joined by renowned music filmmaker Myles O’Reilly (Arbutus Yarns/This Ain’t No Disco), who will document the tour.
For the past two years, Ye Vagabonds have been collecting songs from around Ireland, many of them originating from the islands scattered around the coast. Now, they bring these songs back to the islands themselves.
“Ye Vagabonds possess a strong and distinctive musical identity that, while embodying some familiar sensibilities, fair celebrates its own individuality and certainly stands out from the crowd.” David Kidman – Folk Radio Review
This carefully selected collection will be released in a new album later this year, breathing life into songs long forgotten and shelved, and bringing a new slant into those performed for decades and centuries. This is a unique tour by one of Ireland’s most exciting groups at their creative prime.
