This week’s Folk Show is jammed with many past personal favourites and a couple of new releases, namely from Sharron Kraus (Joy’s Reflection is Sorrow) and Gemma Khawaja (Caelum Scalptorium). A few tracks are inspired by Leigh Folk Festival, the UK’s largest free folk festival, which runs from 21-24 June at Leigh on Sea – “on the northern shore of the Thames Estuary or the ‘Thames Delta’ as many musically-minded souls prefer”. Over the years they have released some incredible compilation albums containing unique recordings and this mix includes a few from the likes of Storywheel, The Diamond Family Archives, Lutine, Estuary Song Writing Project and Danny Pedlar & Rosie Butler-Hall (read more about the festival in our recent article here).
After our feature piece from Joshua Burnell on Shelagh McDonald (read it here) I promised myself I’d include a track from Shelagh in the next Folk Show. Also House and Land are on tour in the UK in July so a track from them was also a must (details here).
