English Heritage and Giles Cooper Entertainment (GCE) have announced that live music will be returning to the sumptuous grounds of Kenwood House in Hampstead in June 2018.
The Heritage Live Concert Series will take place across two weekends in June, seeing a return to the summer calendar at Kenwood and bringing together the best in live music in the most unique of outdoor settings.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson has been announced as one of the first artists in the series, performing an exclusive show celebrating his birthday on Friday 22nd June 2018 for which we have a special giveaway (entry details below).
Heralded as an artist’s artist, the three-time Grammy Award winner has recorded over 28 albums, including three with the Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings as part of the group The Highwaymen.
Kristofferson rose to fame in the early 1970s with a remarkable string of hits that have gone on to become standards, including ‘Me and Bobby McGee’, ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night’, and ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’.
His success in songwriting also brought him to the attention of Hollywood, leading to a career in acting that has seen Kristofferson star in over 70 films, including ‘A Star is Born’, for which his performance earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor.
On the show, Kristofferson said: “I look forward to coming back to England this summer, and feel pretty blessed to still be doing what I love to do. Performing and turning 82 at the Kenwood House in London will be a real honour.”
Plus Special Guests
Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright was the first special guest announced. Rufus is one of the most gifted male vocalists, composers, and songwriters of his generation. He has released eight studio albums, across which he has garnered the rarity of both critical acclaim and commercial success.
He will be joined by rising star, folk singer Josh Okeefe. Okeefe has already performed with the likes of Alison Krauss and Jamey Johnson, earned headline festival spots, BBC Introducing radio appearances, as well as having his songs recorded by major label artists like Ashley Monroe and High Valley to name but a few.
Ashley Campbell, daughter of legendary country music icon Glen Campbell will also be performing. Already known for her work alongside her father — who, during his final years as a touring musician, leaned heavily on his youngest daughter as a banjo player, keyboardist and harmony vocalist — Ashley is now stepping out on her own.
Rose-Lynn Harlan will be performing music from the film Wild Rose starring Jessie Buckley in a tale about a young singer from Glasgow who dreams of making it to Nashville.
Rose-Lynn is born and bred in Scotland’s music city and tipped for fame by Radio 2 legend Bob Harris. As a young country singer from Glasgow she is looking to make her mark on both sides of the water. No US-country copyist, she is writing and singing the songs of where she’s from. The Kenwood performance will be the first time Rose-Lynn performs the original songs to a concert audience, giving music lovers an exclusive first listen of the music from movie. The soundtrack is released on Island Records later this year.
BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris has also been announced to compere the show.

Sam Cooper, English Heritage’s General Manager at Kenwood, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing back the summer concerts to Kenwood. People have been asking us for ages when the concerts would return and while at this stage it’s for one year only, we’re hopeful that this will become an annual event. I can think of no better way to spend a summer’s evening than listening to wonderful music against the spectacular backdrop of Kenwood House.”
Giles Cooper, the Managing Director of GCE, has been involved in some of the most memorable live experiences in the UK for almost three decades, including variety shows such as Sunday Night At The Palladium, and is the Chairman and Executive Producer of the annual Royal Variety Performance. He said: “We are all absolutely thrilled that one of the greatest legends of country music will be performing for us during our Kenwood House series of concerts. Kris is a true musician’s musician and there will undoubtedly be a few very special guests on this exclusive London concert on his birthday. We can’t wait to celebrate with him and make this an unforgettable night to remember for years to come!”
